The Warren Center Hosts 50th Anniversary Celebration

Last month, on April 21, we celebrated 50 years of service with the children and families we serve at our 50th Anniversary Celebration, presented by Reliant Energy. The 50th Anniversary celebration took place at the First United Methodist Church in Richardson and included several fun activities for the former and current families of The Warren Center.

The highlight of the event were the art activities with Dwayne Szot, founder and president of Zot Artz. Children and families were able to use Zot Art tools, which are adaptive art tools, to create their own art experiences by making  patterns and painting on a large mural. Dwayne also helped the children learn how to use these fun tools, including pogo paint poles and art rollers.

In addition to the art activities, there was also face painting, balloon animals, games, hamburgers and ice cream for families to enjoy. And no celebration is complete without special appearances by superheroes, movie characters, and a fire truck! Families had the opportunity to meet and take photos with Chewbacca, Wonder Woman, firefighters from the Richardson Fire Department and more.

Some of the special guests at our 50th Anniversary Celebration included Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker, Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson, Sandee Treptow, Business Affairs Manager at Reliant Energy and members of The Warren Center Board of Trustees and Advisory Council.

During the celebration, there was also a special presentation for our lifetime advocates and leaders. Mayor Voelker helped The Warren Center Executive Director, Amy Spawn, present awards to these passionate individuals, whose service and support have impacted our agency and our families. These individuals included Bill and Beverly Warren, Kay Hopper, Carol Kratville, Liz Francis (Martha Blair received Liz Francis’ award in her honor), and the Jonesville Foundation. In addition, Mayor Voelker presented The Warren Center with a proclamation that April 21, 2018 is The Warren Center Day.

Thank you to all of the families that were able to join us in celebrating 50 years of empowering children and families. We would also like to thank our staff, volunteers, sponsors, including Reliant Energy and Dwayne Szot for supporting The Warren Center.
